2012 Lord Mayor’s Message
Sydney is the New Year’s Eve Capital of the World. There is no better place to countdown a New Year.
Every year we tap into our city’s creativity and talent to pull together an amazing show and this year is sure to be one of the most memorable with Kylie Minogue as Creative Ambassador.
Throughout Kylie’s fabulous career she has been a wonderful ambassador for Australia, so we’re delighted she’s helping us countdown to 2013.
Kylie has worked hard with the City of Sydney and Imagination Australia to develop the Embrace theme for the event.
In the lead-up to 2012 Sydney New Year’s Eve, the Embrace icon – a swirl of coloured sails in magenta, yellow, purple and red – will be seen on banners, buses and bus stops throughout the city.
Embrace will also inspire the 9PM Family Fireworks and Midnight Fireworks, which will be designed and choreographed by expert pyrotechnician Fortunato Foti.
As you celebrate Sydney New Year’s Eve, I’m asking you to support our 2012 charity partner, The Fred Hollows Foundation.
The Foundation has restored sight to more than one million people around the world over the past two decades. For just a $25 donation, you can help them restore sight and give someone a brighter future.
This year, 31 December is going to be a night to remember and we are expecting about 1.6 million people to join us around Sydney Harbour to countdown the New Year.
Please remember to plan ahead for a memorable night, to look out for your friends and to celebrate responsibly.
I hope you have a safe and happy New Year’s Eve.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore
