Sydney New Year’s Eve is a truly global event with more than a million people gathering around Sydney Harbour to show millions of Australians and more than a billion people worldwide how Sydney shines. This year the New Year’s Eve Capital of the World is letting its creativity shine with renowned Sydney artist Reg Mombassa as Creative Ambassador.

I’m honoured and very excited to be working with Reg and our creative team, Imagination Australia, to bring his signature irreverence and amazing artistic vision to bear on the 2013 Sydney New Year’s Eve theme of Shine. This New Year’s Eve, Sydney Harbour will shimmer, the fireworks will sparkle and above all the people and the city will shine.

We have some great ideas to make Sydney shine this year and we’ll be announcing new ways for you to get involved in the event. Whether you’re around Sydney Harbour, around Australia or around the world you’ll be able to be part of the best Sydney New Year’s Eve yet.

I’m excited to welcome Engineers Without Borders Australia (EWB) as our Charity Partner this year. EWB focus on building engineering capacity in communities for long-term results and the partnership with Sydney New Year’s Eve marks an important milestone as they celebrate 10 years of humanitarian engineering.

In a city of great diversity, we come together each New Year’s Eve in a unified celebration of all we are and the potential tomorrow holds for every one of us. For 2013 Sydney New Year’s Eve, we’re looking forward to delivering a night for you to live it up and Shine.
