Pet Owners
We encourage all pet-owners to plan ahead for their animals’ needs.
Pets should never be taken to a public fireworks display, tied up or left alone in the garden or car when fireworks are let off. Make sure all pets are locked indoors, with all potential exits blocked and the blinds shut.
Dogs will be less anxious if they are given plenty of exercise and a filling meal before the fireworks start. Create a comfortable refuge for your dog in a secure, familiar room of the house, with favourite toys, lots of food and drink and something to chew on. Never soothe or comfort a scared dog as it will only increase the problem. Instead distract your pet with games, food, music and encourage calm behaviour with praise and attention.
All pets should be micro-chipped and have a collar and tag which show its owner’s details in case of escape.
Doggy earplugs and soothing pet CDs are also available for calming a scared pet.
