The 2014 Sydney New Year’s Eve program features a number of exciting events that lead up to the spectacular midnight fireworks
6pm - Air Displays Above Sydney Harbour
The sky above Sydney Harbour is the backdrop for air displays that thrill spectators on the harbour foreshore as they anticipate the eventful night ahead.
7pm - Fire Tug Water Display Sydney Harbour
A Sydney Ports Corporation fire tug blasts tonnes of water into the skies, with the spray creating a striking image against the setting sun.
7.30pm - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Smoking Ceremony Sydney Harbour
The harbour is cleansed of negative spirits as white smoke flows across the waters from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander vessels travelling from the western to eastern side of Sydney Harbour. The ceremony begins with traditional eucalyptus smoke that cleanses the past and prepares everyone for the coming New Year, and ends with pyrotechnic smoke effects.
8pm - Air Displays Above Sydney Harbour
The sky above Sydney Harbour once again provides the backdrop for the thrills and spills of dynamic air displays.
8.30pm - Pylon Projections Sydney Harbour Bridge
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is always the dramatic focus of Sydney New Year’s Eve. Its north and south pylons come to life after sunset with huge images projected onto their surfaces.
8.40pm - Acknowledgement of Country Sydney Harbour
The Acknowledgement of Country ceremony reflects the City’s respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage, and honours the relationship between traditional custodians and the land. Dramatic red flares are fired into the sky from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and fireworks barges.
8.45pm - Sydney Harbour Bridge Effect Sydney Harbour Bridge
From nightfall to sunrise, the Sydney Harbour Bridge – the centrepiece of Sydney New Year’s Eve – displays ever-changing images that evoke the annual theme.
9pm Family Fireworks Display Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Harbour
The 9PM Family Fireworks enable families with young children to enjoy a dramatic 8 minute display, and then travel home before the late-night crowds arrive. Set to popular music and firing from four barges, the legendary fireworks add sparkle and magic to the Sydney skyline.
9.15pm - Harbour of Light Parade® Sydney Harbour
Following the 9PM Family Fireworks, the captivating Harbour of Light Parade® takes place. This illuminated flotilla glides across the waters like a colourful chimera, enchanting adults and children alike. Each vessel is outlined with coloured ropelight to enhance its form, adding to the unique choreography that lights up the Harbour.
10.30pm - Design Your Own Fireworks Display Sydney Harbour
At 10.30 the winner of the Design Your Own Fireworks competition will see their entry come to life in this spectacular show-stopper moment.
Midnight Fireworks Display Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Harbour
At the stroke of midnight, we celebrate the start of another New Year! We do this in our usual outstanding style with a spectacular twelve minute fireworks display. The design of the fireworks and Sydney Harbour Bridge Effect are always a well-kept secret until the stroke of midnight. Our famous Sydney New Year’s Eve Fireworks Display is viewed by millions around the world, on television and online.
