Sustainability

The City of Sydney is certified carbon neutral for its operations.  We’re committed to reducing carbon emissions from our operations and events. Leading industry best practice, we reduce the volume of waste sent to landfill. Waste is a big contributor to climate change and in 2022 contributed to 15% of greenhouse gas emissions from our area.

We work with partners and suppliers who share a commitment to achieving leading environmental performance for a sustainable future. You’re also encouraged to jump on board and help make Sydney New Year’s Eve more sustainable to keep our city sparkling and leave nothing to waste.

Our operations are certified carbon neutral under the Climate Active offset standard.

How can I help make Sydney New Year’s Eve more sustainable?

  • Use public transport to get to the event

  • View the event program on your phone instead of printing

  • Bring your food in reusable containers

  • Take a reusable water bottle and refill it at one of the many water stations

  • If you plan to order takeaway food and beverages, bring your own reusable cutlery, cup, napkins, containers and bags instead of single-use items from the provider

  • Put your recyclables in one of our many recycling bins

  • Dispose of general waste in a bin or take it home with you
