Transport
Getting here
- Access is from Macquarie Street at Bent St – no access from Alfred St.
- There will be a security checkpoint at the entrance to the Forecourt.
- Public transport is the best way to get around on New Year’s Eve with thousands of extra services running.
- The closest stations to the entry gates on Macquarie Street are Martin Place and St James. Trains will not stop at Circular Quay after 3pm.
- Light rail services will not run to Circular Quay from 2pm and buses will relocate to Martin Place from 12pm and Hyde Park from 5pm.

- Driving is not recommended.
- Macquarie Street will close to traffic on New Year’s Eve at 4:00am and will reopen on New Year’s Day at 10:00am. The Opera House Wilson carpark will be closed during this time. Plan ahead if catching taxis or rideshare. See road closure information.
Leaving the event
- The closest stations are Martin Place or St James. Access to Wynyard Station is from King St only.
- Buses leave from Wynyard, QVB and Hyde Park. Light rail services to the south east will leave from Central only after 7pm.
- Limited ferries run after the midnight fireworks, services will be busy so have a back up plan.

- Pedestrian diversions are in place on New Year’s Eve. The way you arrive, may be different to how you get home. Be prepared for a longer walk to transport hubs.
