Transport

Getting here

  • There will be a security checkpoint at the entrance to the Forecourt.
  • Public transport is the best way to get around on New Year’s Eve with thousands of extra services running.
  • Driving is not recommended.
  • Macquarie Street will close to traffic on New Year’s Eve at 4:00am and will reopen on New Year’s Day at 10:00am. The Opera House Wilson carpark will be closed during this time.
  • The closest train station to the entry gates on Macquarie Street will be Martin Place and St James.
  • There will be no trains, ferries, light rail or buses to Circular Quay after 3:00pm.

Leaving the event

  • Pedestrian diversions will be in place on New Year’s Eve. The way you leave may be different to how you arrived. Be prepared for a longer walk to transport hubs.
  • The closest stations are Martin Place or St James. Access to Wynyard station is via King Street only.
  • Buses leave from Wynyard, QVB and Hyde Park. Light rail services to the southeast will leave from Central only after 7pm. 
  • Limited ferries run after the midnight fireworks, services will be busy so have a backup plan.
