What to bring

New Year’s Eve can be a long day so it’s important to be prepared. Bring activities to keep everyone entertained.  A book, board game, your favourite podcasts or shows can help make the day more enjoyable. Pack sunscreen, a hat, water, snacks, wet weather gear and a blanket to sit on. Avoid glass containers, alcohol, and large bags, as these are often banned at vantage points. Visit your chosen vantage point listing to find out more about restrictions.

Tickets

Some vantage points require tickets, while others are free and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Use the filter on the vantage point map to search for what’s best for you.

Leaving and re-entering vantage points

Most vantage points don't allow re-entry once you leave. Plan to stay until after the midnight fireworks to avoid losing your spot.

Alcohol

Most free vantage points, such as Campbells Cove, Hickson Road Reserve, and West Circular Quay, are alcohol-free zones in 2025. Use the vantage point map to see alcohol-free sites, where you can BYO or where alcohol will be for sale.

Bringing food

You can bring your own food to most vantage points, but glass containers and large bags are often prohibited. Check your chosen vantage point listing for further details about restrictions.

Pets

Pets are not allowed at most vantage points to ensure crowd safety. Assistance animals are permitted. Check your chosen vantage point listing for more information.

Security

Security teams and bag checks are in place at vantage points to ensure safety. Follow signs and staff instructions.

Family-friendly NYE activities

The 9pm Calling Country fireworks, produced by We Are Warriors, are perfect for families with young children. Spots like Dawes Point and Darling Harbour offer space for kids to play, food trucks, and entertainment.

Camping

Overnight camping is discouraged, with vantage point access managed by fencing and gates. B prepared and visit the vantage point listing to find out what time your chosen location opens.  Arrive early together on the day to secure your spot.

Toilets

Most vantage points will have standard and accessible toilets.  Accessible change rooms will be available at a select number of vantage points.  Visit your chosen vantage point listing for more information.

Public transport

Extra public transport services will run, but Circular Quay Station closes from 3pm to midnight. Use Wynyard, Martin Place, or St James stations for Circular Quay vantage points, or Victoria Cross for North Sydney vantage points. Allow extra time and plan your trip at transportnsw.info
